What to do while on Vacation in Abaco

One of the most popular things to do in the Abaco is water activities. With the convenience of a boat, you can explore all the cays and their beaches on your own schedule. Snorkeling is good, and you might see turtles and stingrays, as well as a wide selection of other fish.

If you are looking to do some fishing, it might be smart to find a local fisherman who can provide fishing gear and local knowledge. While in a rental boat, you are not insured if you go out in the Atlantic Ocean, but you can be everywhere on the inside, on the Sea of Abaco. Snorkeling is often good on the Ocean side, but you can take the boat to one of the cays and walk across to the beach and snorkel from there. The beach is never far, as all the cays are really narrow.

Island hopping and exploring the islands (cays) of Abaco with their beautiful beaches is a lot of fun. Each island is different from the next and there is always something new to discover. Treasure Cay is known for its several mile long beach  and a golf course.  To the north you'll find Man-O-War,  the home of the famous Sail Shop with a huge variety of sail bags and pouches. As you follow the chain of cays from Man-O-War and west, you will encounter Scotland Cay (private island) and Great Guana Cay, with an amazing beach and famous Nipper's Beach Bar. To the south east you'll find Elbow Cay, home to the famous Hope Town Lighthouse, well worth the climb for the amazing view from the top. The nearest beaches will be on Elbow Cay. As you move way further south, along Great Abaco Island, you'll get to Little Harbour, with famous Pete's Pub and his bronze gallery.  Little Harbour has a great beach to explore behind Pete's Pub and has small caves to discover across the harbour. There is a string of barrier islands with beautiful beaches, for instance Pelican Cays, which are a part of the National Park.

In fact, The Abacos have beaches suited to everyone's liking. And most likely, you'll find a secluded spot to call your own.

On the outer cays beaches make popular surf spots and snorkel sites, with the barrier reef running along the shore. Most Abaco beaches are secluded, but if you're looking for a beach party, head to Great Guana Cay for the Nippers's Sunday pig roast.

Life in Abaco is slow-paced, informal and relaxed. The locals have time to talk and are helpful.

If you don't feel like doing anything at all, that's also a highly rated activity...
